Rome is known for being extremely expensive compared to the rest of Italy – especially if you are in the typical tourist district. Here are some restaurants that will let you eat for less than 10 euros!
Restaurante da Augusto Trastevere doesn’t have the nicest location as it is placed near a busy road, but it is OK. You can sit outside or inside. They have great pizza, and it only costs 6-8 euros – which is quite impressive for being in the center of Rome!
Trattoria da Gigi is a restaurant not far from the Spanish Steps. It is a cosy place, but the waiters are quite grumpy (something we experienced all over Rome). We tried the set menu, where you get bruchetta, one drink and pizza or pasta for 10 euros. I ate the ravioli, which was great.
Carlo Menta Talevi is a restaurant in Trastevere with amazing food deals. We had a set menu with four courses for only 10 euros! This is though the lunch price – for dinner, the price is 13 euros (not too bad). I started with bruschetta, then pasta, meat and dessert. All this for only 10 euros! The quality was quite good as well, especially considering the price. My brother only had pizza, which he said was amazing – and it only cost 5-6 euros – so everything is cheap here.
Taverna Ripetta is a small family restaurant – I think they only had five tables. It is located close to Piazza de Popolo. We had pasta, which seemed to be their specialty – and it was delicious. It was not so cheap, but our pastas was 10 euros each.
We stayed at Hotel Parlamento, a “budget” hotel with perfect location. Even though it is supposed to be cheap compared to the rest of the hotels in Rome, I think it was extremely expensive. We paid around 115 euros per night for this 2 star hotel – and that was the best I could find (I guess we went in the worst tourist season though, many hotel were full booked), but hotels in Rome are in general very expensive!
